The supply of water for human needs, liveability, agriculture and industry is becoming more challenging as natural rainfall declines, the population in cities increases and liveability criteria are embraced in urban planning.

Therefore, it is of paramount importance, and a core tenant of Kooragang Water’s ethics, that water supplies are increasingly more reliable and sustainable in the face of these challenges.

Kooragang Water strives to make every part of business environmentally, socially and economically sustainable, which we do by focusing on four key elements: People; Places; Products; and, Processes.

People

The individuals involved with Kooragang Water are of the utmost importance, whether they are employees, customers, contractors, or the communities in which they operate. Kooragang Water’s aims to treat all people honestly, with dignity and consideration for their safety.

Places

The importance of location encompasses both the physical environment and the communities that are impacted by our operations. Kooragang Water strives to ensure that these places are in a more improved position than they were before becoming a part of that place, be that economically or by reversing environmental impacts.

Products

These are the services and materials we supply to our customers. Kooragang Water supplies these products reliably, safely, and with the quality expected by our customers and the community.

Processes

This incorporates the systems, policies, and procedures established across the Kooragang Water business, to ensure we meet and surpass the expectations from society and the community of being a good corporate citizen.

Sustainability Reporting

Water Utilities Australia, Kooragang Water’s parent entity, has committed to producing an annual Sustainability Report. The report has been established to set the benchmark of Water Utilities Australia’s current sustainability practices, which has enabled performance tracking over the coming years as the focus remains on continual improvement in sustainability practices, improving liveability and providing innovative water supply solutions.

Quality, Health and Safety, Environment

Kooragang Water is committed to implementing, maintaining and continually improving an integrated management system to better our quality, health and safety and environmental performance for the benefit of our customers, our staff and the wider community.

Water Utilities Australia's integrated management system, which encompasses the Kooragang Water business, is third-party certified to the requirements of ISO9001, ISO45001, and ISO14001.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

Water Utilities Australia, Kooragang Water’s Parent Entity, supports the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) where possible throughout the business. The 17 SDGs were established at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in 2012, replacing the previously existing Millennium Development Goals.

The SDGs were established to address the challenges the world faces in relation to poverty, climate, inequality, health, economic development, environmental degradation, peace and justice. Water Utilities Australia’s continual progress in contributions towards meeting the 17 SDGs is published in WUA’s annual Sustainability Report.
